“You are getting paid off by <so-and-so> to write about them, aren’t you?”
Riddle me this, Batman: If a company decides to invite an editor or five to its user group meeting or some sort of designed/structured media event and picks up part or all the tab for transport, food, and lodging, is that “buying” coverage?
Or is the company simply conducting a better media relations campaign than the competition?
There’s nothing to prevent competitors from doing the same thing, hm?
And let’s face it: If I’m spending quality time with a company for a day or two, what am I most likely to write about? The company? Or its competitors?
